SW News: Catholic Bishops of Chad have expressed their concerns over the inter-community clashes in the country. The Bishops' Commission for Justice and Peace called for concrete efforts for peace in the central African country.

The commission decried the lack of proper government measures against the recurring attacks. In addition, the prelates expressed grave concerns about the resumption of inter-community hostilities, despite the National Sovereign Inclusive Dialogue, which was supposed to unite Chadians and provide peace and security.

"The failure of the country's governance system can be seen in the recent clashes in the Mayo-Kebbi East Province and the Logone Oriental Province between farmers and herders at the start of the harvest, thefts of livestock, and kidnappings for ransom," the commission members said.

Meanwhile, the bishops also warned about social media campaigns aiming to incite hatred among the people. "This can only cause indignation and frustration of any honest and responsible citizen," they added.

The commission further called on the government to take action against the perpetrators so that the victims receive justice. They also urged the people of faith to remain calm and continue prayers amidst the violence.

Following the extension of Mahamat Idriss Déby's term as president of the Transitional Council in October last year, tensions have been exceptionally high in Chad.
