SW News: Violent Muslim radicals burned down a Christian congregation's meeting place in Luuka, eastern Uganda. According to Morning Star News, the torching of the house church occurred on November 20, a week after Muslims physically assaulted two men who left Islam and embraced Christianity.

Due to outreach by members of the house church, two well-known Muslim families professed their faith in Christ at the beginning of November. This infuriated local Muslims, who accused the congregation of making noise and also converting Muslims.

On November 20, four Muslims arrived at the house where Christian leader Nicholas Mugume lived with his family. After a heated argument, complaints, and claims that they were converting Muslims, the extremists poured gasoline into the charcoal stove. As the attackers fled, the fire quickly spread and gutted the house.

According to Mugume, the attackers threatened them, saying, "This is simply a warning to you that if you continue to take our people to your religion, terrible things will happen to you." Mugume was cited as adding that the family has temporarily sought shelter in a rented home in another town and that they need assistance.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two brothers, 28-year-old Arafah Senyange and 43-year-old Zulufa Hajati Nakimuli were assaulted with sticks last month for converting to Christianity. After returning from a Sunday service in Busembatia, they were both reading the Bible outside their father's house when a Muslim community leader Hamuza Lubega appeared shouting the jihadist slogan "Allah Akbar" (Allah is great). He allegedly ripped their Bibles and caned them with the help of other radicals.

The attacks were just the latest in a long line of persecutions of Christians in Uganda. Uganda has a diverse religious landscape, with Christianity being the most widely practiced religion. According to the 2014 census, over 84 percent of the population was Christian, with Islam constituting the largest minority religion at 14 percent.
