SW News: On July 30, Manhattan, the heart of New York City, will witness the opening of its first perpetual adoration chapel. The chapel is located at St Joseph’s church in Greenwich Village. A special blessing of the chapel will take place following a Mass in the morning.
The church is overseen by the Dominican Friars from the Province of Saint Joseph. “We’re happy to announce the opening of Manhattan's first-ever perpetual adoration chapel here at St. Joseph's in Greenwich Village! The chapel will serve everyone in the Archdiocese,” the website of the church reads. Each individual who signs up for an adoration commitment will be issued a personal access key card, granting them entry to the chapel.
A perpetual adoration chapel is a dedicated place of worship and prayer in the Catholic Church. The central focus of these chapels is the continuous adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
The opening of the perpetual adoration chapel in Manhattan is significant as it coincides with the National Eucharistic Revival, which is being organized by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The three-year initiative, launched by the USCCB in 2022, will culminate with next year's National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, Indiana.
