SW News: Republican lawmakers in USA's Oregon have been outspoken in their opposition to House Bill 2002 B, which Democrats passed on Monday night with a vote of 36-23. The bill makes abortion and sex-change treatments permissible for children without their parents' consent.

The legislation will now be reviewed by the state senate, which is also controlled by Democrats, and a vote on it may take place as soon as this week before being forwarded to Governor Tina Kotek for confirmation. Republican members were unsatisfied with the measure's single public hearing and proposed motions to remand it to other policy committees, postpone the vote until the following month, or even repeal it.

If passed, the bill would allow abortions for kids under the age of 15, and doctors would not even be obliged to notify their patients' parents before executing the surgery.

The measure, according to House Republican Leader Vikki Breese-Iverson of Prineville, is an "egregious violation of the sacred relationship between a parent and child." "As a mom," she said, "I can say with absolute certainty that the state of Oregon does not know more about my children's needs than I do."

Gender-change surgery, including abortions on children under the age of 15, may be covered by both government and private insurance. It also specifies that emergency contraception and abortion medications must be available in public and community institutions that provide student health services.

HB 2002 is the product of progressive lawmakers and their far-left base placing ideological dogma above basic sense, according to the chairman of the Oregon Republican Party. He went on to say that the measure was "low" for Oregon and a significant loss for children and parents. "Imagine being a parent who discovers that your child has made a life-changing decision without your consent or knowledge," he says.

Meanwhile, Democrats in the House have defended the bill, claiming that it would restore Roe v. Wade protections and protect Oregonians from the potentially disastrous Dobbs decision.
