USCCB calls for law enforcement against porn industry
News Desk
Wednesday, 13 May 2020
SW News: In response to the increasing demand for pornography in countries during the lockdown, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has urged the Department of Justice to enforce obscenity laws to protect victims of exploitation and human trafficking by the porn industry. In the letter written to the Department of Justice, the bishops of the U.S. demanded the “enforcement of obscenity laws, investigation on pornography producers and website owners for criminality.” The letter points out that, when "the current pandemic is exacting a heavy and widespread emotional, social, and financial toll in our communities," the increase in pornography leads to the objectification of fellow brothers and sisters, "often directly exploiting them and diminishes the health of users’ relationships with others.” The bishops said that virtually unchecked proliferation of pornography fuels the demand that frequently results in commercial sexual exploitation.
