SW News: In an article published in Denver Catholic, the Archbishop of Denver, Samuel J. Aquila, wrote how Catholics can respond to the “constant attacks” on the “national and religious values” of the country.

In light of the disturbing events that took place in the Capitol building in DC on January 6, 2021, as well as the several acts of violence that occurred last year in many cities countrywide, the archbishop wrote, “Our country is suffering from the unraveling of the common moral fabric and the truths that comprise it that have held us together for nearly 245 years.” He said that when people search for the truth, “they don’t find a single answer” but instead, “they are confronted with a mob of competing voices, each with their own agenda.” “Finding someone or an organization seeking the common good is increasingly rare,” he noted.

The archbishop asserted that Jesus – the way, the truth and the life, is the “only solution that will repair the weakened moral fabric of society.”

“We need to break away from the constant flow of information,” and learn to recognize God in the “light, silent sound,” by “placing our trust in Christ for salvation and seeking his wisdom for how to live.”

The archbishop reminded the faithful that, “we are made for heaven and are called to build up the kingdom of God, not a utopia on earth.” “This means seeing both our friends and our enemies as sons and daughters of the Father, no matter what their beliefs, ethnicity or political affiliation,” he added.

Concluding his writing, Archbishop Aquila urged all Catholics to “love others as Christ loved us.” In order to do this, the archbishop asserted that we need to “receive the love of God and recognize that he is real.”
