SW News: In a recent incident of Christian oppression, a Pakistani Christian couple was arrested on blasphemy charges. The arrest was made in Lahore after ripped pages of the Quran were discovered on the suspects’ rooftop and in the surrounding area.

Shaukat and Kiran Masih have been accused of sacred text destruction, an offense punishable by life in prison under Pakistan's criminal code (section 295-B). The complainant, Muhammad Tamoor, alleged in the First Information Report (FIR) that on Friday night, he witnessed some pages of the Quran fall from the roof of a nearby home near Khanki Tikka. Concerned, he knocked on the door, and Kiran answered. When questioned about the event, she stated that her daughters Sundas and Ruby, as well as her son Sabir, could have been to blame.

The complainant immediately notified the police by dialing the emergency number. As a result, the North Cantonment police station reacted quickly to the contact and detained the suspects. According to Police Officer Mahmood Ahmad's statement, a blasphemy charge has been filed against the Christian couple. As a result, Shaukat and his wife have been seized by authorities.

Meanwhile, Nasir Saeed, the Director of CLAAS-UK, has spoken out against the growing incidence of blasphemy cases against Christians in Pakistan and the ensuing persecution. Saeed emphasized the government's reaction to rising anti-Christian sentiments and asked authorities to crack down on hate speech. Saeed also stressed the government's obligation to safeguard all citizens, particularly religious minorities.

As per the available statistics, a considerable majority of blasphemy cases in Pakistan are initiated primarily to resolve personal disagreements between the complainant and the accused individuals.
