SW News: Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tewadros II has flayed homosexuality, saying that it does not conform to the Bible and the will of God who created Adam and Eve.
The patriarch made this statement in an interview with an Egyptian television channel. He also made a reference to programs to bring up children while shielding them from “theories and theses considered ambiguous and not compliant with the Bible regarding issues related to the relationship between the sexes and sexual orientation”.

Patriarch Tewadros, who also holds the title of ‘Pope’, was stressing the teaching of previous Church heads regarding the Biblical view of sexual morality. During an August 2017 visit to Australia to meet the Coptic diaspora there, Tewadros made a remark that as per the Holy Bible, “God created man and woman” and marriage is nothing but the union between a man and a woman.
Just because of that, marriage between people of the same gender was “unacceptable” for the Christian faith and therefore “is considered a sin”. The same year, the Coptic pope reiterated Church teaching regarding sexuality and marriage during his catechesis on September 27.

In 2015, when US courts ruled that same-sex marriage was a human right, Pope Tewadros had said that such unions were a “deviation from normality”. He warned that such marriages were a sign of the degradation of society.

The Christian view of marriage and morality was reiterated by Patriarch Tewadros’ friend Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar in Egypt, during a visit to Indonesia in 2016. During that visit, the top Islamic cleric slammed some “heads of Churches in the United States” for adopting a tolerant approach to same-sex marriages. “I wonder what is left of the Bible in those Churches, And what will they say before Jesus?” he said.
