SW News: One of Hong Kong’s leading Catholic businessmen has been arrested following Communist China’s introduction of new security laws within the former British Colony. 72-year-old Jimmy Lai is the owner of pro-democracy newspaper “Apple Daily”. He was arrested on August 10th during a police raid upon his newspaper offices after being suspected of, "conspiracy to fraud" and "collaboration with foreign forces”. Other members of staff were also arrested including two of his sons. Mr. Lai has now been released on bail. The raid and arrests are being seen by many observers as proof that Hong Kong’s new Security Laws, which were introduced in June, are being used to crack-down upon critics of Communist China. Jimmy Lai is one the largest financial donors to the Catholic Church in Hong Kong and is a close ally of the former Bishop of the territory, Cardinal Joseph Zen.
