SW News:
Melbourne Archbishop on Saturday urged the faithful to “continue to pray” for those affected by the flood in Victoria.
Archbishop Peter Andrew Comensoli, the Archbishop of Melbourne, in a Facebook post sought prayers for the “protection of life” of those people affected by the flood. He also asked the faithful to pray for those who had to undergo evacuation and for those people whose homes were flooded and for the “emergency workers assisting.”
Victoria, a state in southeast Australia has been affected by floods for days. State Emergency Service acting director Leon Smith said that the rainfall in some areas exceeded the fall in mid-2016, the Guardian reported. According to BBC, some parts of Australia received around four times their average October downpour within 24 hours. One person died in the flood, another is missing and at least 500 houses have been affected by the flood water.
Several communities have been ordered to evacuate the place, reported the Guardian. According to BBC, flooded roads forced the shutdown of schools and 3,000 houses and businesses have been affected by power failure.
Daniel Michael Andrews, the premier of Victoria announced relief payments for families in the state whose homes have been impacted by flood. “2,000 have applied so far - and we're processing applications as fast as we can,” he said in a Tweet. The payments can be used for food, shelter, clothing, and medication.
More than 20 people died in the country due to floods this year.
