SW News:
As heavy rains and major floods continue to submerge Australia’s New South Wales, Sydney Archbishop, Anthony Fisher OP, in a Facebook post expressed concern and offered his prayers for “the thousands of residents on the north coast and in parts of western Sydney who have been evacuated from their homes and in some cases have lost their homes.” He invoked the intercession of St Florian, the patron saint against floods.
Premier of NSW and Member for Willoughby Gladys Berejiklian, on Monday tweeted urging “everyone to stay safe in flood-affected areas & to follow the advice from emergency services.”
Since Thursday, March 18, heavy rain has been disrupting the communities, but the floods intensified over the weekend causing some areas to look like “inland seas.”
In 2019 and 2020, New South Wales had faced severe wildfires and is now battling with what is considered as the heaviest rainfall in decades.
“I don't know any time in our state's history where we've had these extreme weather conditions in such quick succession in the middle of a pandemic," Berejiklian said.
