Abu Dhabi:
United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Vatican City State Secretary General Cardinal Pietro Parolin in the capital Abu Dhabi to discuss ways to boost relations between the Holy See and the UAE.
They discussed ways to develop bilateral connections to promote human brotherhood and a culture of tolerance. The event coincided with the World Summit of Religious Leaders for Climate, which ended on November 7 in Abu Dhabi.
Its objective was to prepare for Pope Francis' visit to Dubai from December 1st to 3rd, during which he will participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Al Nahyan also stressed the need for the UAE to establish and deepen relations with the Holy See. He emphasized the significance of religious leaders in increasing awareness of climate change and the global reaction to its consequences, as well as the necessity to coordinate all efforts to safeguard the world and achieve sustainable development.
The UAE foreign minister said that his government is dedicated to combating extremism and intolerance since they endanger global stability.
As the UAE prepares to host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Parolin wished the UAE luck and hailed the two nations' longstanding connections as well as their efforts to enhance peace, tolerance, and cohabitation.
