SW News: The process of beatification and canonization of St. John Paul II's parents, the Servants of God Emilia Wojtyła née Kaczorowska and Karol Wojtyła, was inaugurated in Wadowice, the birthplace of the former Pope. The first session in the beatification and canonization process was held on May 7, at the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wadowice. Following the ceremony, the Holy Mass was presided over by Kracow Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski. In the Holy Mass, the archbishop prayed for the successful completion of the process by imploring the intercession of Servants of God, Karol and Emilia Wojtyłów. Emilia née Kaczorowska and Karol Wojtyła senior got married on February 10, 1906, in Kracow. The couple had three kids; Edmund, Olga, and Karol junior. Emilia died on April 13, 1929, at the age of 45, when Karol was 9. A life centered around home, army, and church, Karol Wojtyła senior was a spiritual, hard-working, and conscientious man. Pope John Paul II often recollected the memories of his father kneeling down in prayer at night. He died in 1941 in Kracow. The spiritual life of his parents had deeply influenced the formation of Saint Pope John Paul II.
