English religious leaders strongly oppose proposed bill on voluntary assisted dying

SW News: The Catholic Church in Britain joined hands with the Anglican Church and the Jewish community to strongly oppose the proposed Bill to legalize assisted dying. The Archbishop of Westminster Cardinal Vincent Nichols, who is the President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales; Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, issued a joint letter to Members of the House of Lords on Thursday in which they expressed their "deep unrest" over the assisted dying bill ahead of its second debate in the House of Lords that is slated for October 22.
The three religious leaders highlighted the risks and dangers posed by the bill's provisions and the problem of 'real-life' issues associated with it. They call on people across the nation to take care of the most vulnerable individuals in society. They also urged individuals of all religions to unite in caring for the most vulnerable people through the 'common bond of humanity.' The prelates also said that there has to be legislation to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality palliative care at the end of their life. They also emphasized that, instead of accepting assisted suicide, the objective of a humane society should be supporting assisted living.
Baroness Meacher's Private Member Bill proposes that terminally sick patients be allowed to choose assisted suicide if there are not expected to live beyond six months.
