London School of Economics draws ire over canceling Christian term names for global outreach

SW News: After eliminating its Christian term titles, the London School of Economics (LSE) was charged with being "ashamed" of Britain's history and culture.
The school claims that the name changes are necessary to "better reflect the worldwide makeup of our community."
From the next year, Michaelmas will be known as "autumn term," Christmas break will be known as "winter break," Lent Term will be known as "winter term," and Easter break will be known as "spring break," mimicking American universities.
The LSE, founded in 1895, will discontinue using its present term names at the beginning of the 2023–24 academic year, which begins in September.
According to a statement on the university's website, the new titles "better represent the multinational makeup of our community and our greater global engagement" and "use more accessible and widely-recognized terms."
It comes after the University of Brighton advised staff not to say 'Christmas' and instead call it the 'winter closure period'.
“This is typical that in the name of inclusivity what it does is exclude Christians and those who think our Christian heritage is vital. We have been warning for years that Christians are being pushed from the public square, yet the problem is getting worse. Christians and those with traditional views often find themselves silenced or bullied. It’s particularly ironic when this happens at institutions that were originally founded on Christian principles and with endowments from Christian benefactors,” said Simon Calvert, the deputy director of the Christian Institute.
Toby Young, general secretary of the Free Speech Union, criticized LSE for its decision. “If this was an effort to secularize the LSE I’d be sympathetic,” he said.
"But in reality, it reflects the fact that the LSE, like most British universities, is in thrall to a new religious cult — the church of woke — that is far more dogmatic than Christianity."
