Vatican:
Dublin’s major Christmas attraction, The Moving Crib, was officially opened on November 28, to celebrate its 67th Christmas. The crib would remain open to the public at St Martin apostolate on Parnell Square throughout the Christmas season until January 7 next year.
For more than six decades visitors from in and around Ireland have been enjoying the sight of the Moving Crib. In 1956, Fr. Louis Coffey came forth with the idea of setting up the crib with the intention of bringing the Bible alive for the kids. He brought the idea to life using mechanical figures.
In the first year the Moving Crib, set in the heart of Dublin City, consisted of the crib scene, with a stable and moving figures. Later, during the expansion, the master craftsman of the crib, Frank Pringle built all the new scenes including Noah's Ark. Recently, the famous Dublin artist, Cormac Larkin painted the background of the later scenes and repainted some of the older scenes.
Over 100 figures arranged in 14 different tableaux showcasing various episodes of the Bible’s Old and New Testament continues to attract people of all ages. In 2015, the crib was refurbished in all its grandeur by a team of carpenters and craftsmen.
