SW News: Pope Francis has revealed his prayer intentions for the month of September. The pontiff is urging people from various backgrounds to unite with him in prayer and offer assistance to marginalized individuals residing in distressing circumstances.

In a profound message, the pope stressed the necessity of ensuring that vulnerable people are never abandoned or neglected by institutions. In a moving thought, the Holy Father voiced his grief, questioning how our communities have collapsed to such a deplorable degree of apathy and lamenting the reality that the death of a homeless person receives little notice on search engines or news broadcasts.

The pope further blamed widespread apathy on what he calls a "throwaway civilization," in which many individuals are disregarded in favor of material possessions. He urged people to pay attention to those on the outskirts, emphasizing the need to recognize the difficulties faced by those in need, whether due to poverty, addiction, mental illness, or handicap.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Michael Czerny, the director of the Vatican's Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, repeated the Pope's prayer intention, asking Christians to have fleshy souls rather than stone souls.

Cardinal Czerny defined welcoming someone as "recognizing their equality and reconnecting with lost kin, therefore merging as one through prayer."

According to the World Health Organization, one in every eight individuals worldwide suffers from mental illness, while the United Nations estimates that 1.6 billion people, or more than 10 per cent of the global population, live in poverty.
