SW News: The annual ‘Family Rosary Procession’ of the Archdiocese of St Paul and Minneapolis will be held in Minnesota on May 2.
“As a public witness to our Catholic faith during the month of May dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary, come with family and friends to the annual Archdiocesan Family Rosary Procession,” stated the official website of the Archdiocese.
The Family Rosary Procession will process from the State Capitol to the Cathedral of St Paul. Line up begins at the State Capitol at 1:15pm, and the procession will start at 2pm led by Archbishop Bernard Hebda.
The various parishes have been told to bring banners to represent their communities and the First Communicants are encouraged to wear their First Communion attire, and all the rest their Sunday best.
Due to the COVID-19 safety protocols there will be limited indoor seating in the cathedral following the procession. Those who are unable to walk from the State Capitol to the cathedral can pray the rosary in the cathedral starting at 2:00pm. The event will conclude with Benediction. The event will be live streamed on the cathedral’s Facebook page and is sponsored by the Archdiocese in collaboration with the Family Rosary Processions Association.
Heeding the message of our Lady of Fatima and in response to the rise of communism in Eastern Europe, Monsignor Doherty initiated a public demonstration of prayer at the St Paul Cathedral in 1947. The prayer service was so successful that the Monsignor launched the May Day Family Rosary Procession in 1948. It became so popular and the attendance grew every year and in 1998, the May Day Family Rosary Procession Committee received a papal blessing in conjunction with the celebration of their 50th anniversary.
