SW News: Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York, along with a delegation made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Sunday and posted a video of it on Twitter from the city of Lviv.

ABC News reported that Dolan halted at no less than six places in Lviv, meeting Catholic relief workers and displaced people. The prelate said that he also met a 94-year-old woman from the Donbas region and a family that fled the devastated port city of Mariupol.

The top prelate said that he saw a young man, whom he couldn’t forget, as he was still in the trauma of witnessing the bombing and hasn’t spoken since then. However, “in general, the people were confident, hopeful and were grateful for the help they got and so that was uplifting for me," said the cardinal who returned on Monday.

He arrived in Poland on Friday and met Catholic aid agencies trying to help the millions of people fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It was through the Polish frontier that he secretly entered Ukraine along with a delegation.

“We didn’t know for sure if we’d be able to get here, but thanks be to God we were able to leave Poland yesterday and come here to Ukraine,” said Cardinal Dolan, who also visited Slovakia where there are Ukrainian refugees.

ABC reported that Cardinal Dolan met Adam Keehn, who spearheads the Polish operation of NGO AmeriCares, at the train station in Warsaw, Poland. The Connecticut-based outfit has already shipped 100 tonnes of medical supplies to Ukraine. Dolan even requested his social media followers to continue donating and helping the relief agencies.

According to official estimates, 7.7 million people have been displaced within Ukraine and the death toll of civilians killed since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24 had exceeded 3,000 people. Russia claims its actions in Eastern Europe are a "special operation" to disarm Ukraine and protect it from fascists.
