Ukrainian initiative urges faithful to protect Christian spiritual values

Kyiv:
A group of Ukrainians is seeking to rebuild their war-torn country based on Christian principles. Through an initiative called ‘Platform of Christian Unity in the Baltic and Black Sea Region’, the group urges the faithful to protect their spiritual values. The initiative intends to join the Christians from across Ukraine, Lituania, Latvia and Poland. It focuses on reviving the long-term political and cultural ties between these countries based on Christian values.
Rimantas Joanas Dagys, the chairman of the Lithuanian Christian Union party, who has been involved with the project since its inception this year, expressed his hope for the same. He said this platform would reconstruct Ukraine’s spiritual environment, along with other states with similar cultural and historical backgrounds. He further said that it would serve as a hub for resistance to ‘Russian imperialism' and 'values deemed unacceptable to Christians that destroy Western society from the inside.'
According to Dagys, Ukraine needs both materialistic and spiritual reconstruction. This spiritual reconstruction requires support from other countries that have Ukraine’s similar culture and are formed based on Christian values. And so, this initiative will be a communication platform that unites Christians.
While speaking to a Lithuanian publication, Dagys also decried how the spreading of gender ideologies can undermine Western societal values in the world. He went on to say that other conventional values, such as those about marriage and family, may be compromised by these gender ideologies. Though same-sex marriage is unacceptable to Ukrainians, the European Union is actively pressuring Ukraine to include LGBT ideals in its curriculum and finally pass a statute legalizing it. Dagys added that although the ‘Platform of Christian Unity in the Baltic and Black Sea Region’ initiative is in its primary stage, the participants hope to expand it beyond the Baltic.
