Mississippi Governor declares June as Sanctity of Life Month

SW News: Governor Tate Reeves of the US state of Mississippi has declared that from henceforth the month of June will be celebrated as ‘Sanctity of Life Month’. The declaration was made on Wednesday. This comes just days after SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade that legalized abortion way back in 1973.
In a Twitter message, the governor quoted former US president Ronald Reagan who once said “The values and freedoms we cherish as Americans rest on our fundamental commitment to the sanctity of life.” Reeves said, “Recognizing this, and celebrating the recent decision to overturn Roe v Wade, I have declared June to be Sanctity of Life Month.”
He said that the state must now turn to the work that lies before it, adding that it has to take every step to protect mothers and children through policies based on compassion. Reeves made it clear that the state of Mississippi would make sure that every baby has a family that “loves and cherishes them”. The governor said that it is imperative for the state to build and sustain a “pro-life agenda” in order to create a “culture that values the inherent dignity of every individual”.
It was in the ruling on Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization that the Supreme Court repealed Roe v Wade. In its verdict, the court upheld the constitutionality of Mississippi’s fetal heartbeat law, which was legally challenged by pro-choice outfits. When the ruling was announced, Reeves issued a statement on social media calling it a joyous day.
