Columbus:

Voters in the American state of Ohio have said ‘Yes’ to a constitutional amendment that enshrines abortion as a right. This comes as a setback to the efforts of pro-lifers to drive home awareness about the dangers of the termination of pregnancy and how it ultimately harms women. Republicans in the state opposed the vote saying that the measure went even farther than Roe v. Wade.

Republican leaders, faith leaders and parental rights groups argued that the legislation went too far. Governor Mike DeWine said in an interview with Fox News Digital last month that it was clear that this constitutional amendment just went farther, much further than what the average Ohioan approved.

“If a voter is comfortable with abortion up until the time of birth, they’re probably going to be okay with this amendment—if they are comfortable with parents not being involved in the most important decision their daughter will ever make or certainly has made up until that point in her life. If they’re okay with that, then they should vote for this.”

Reacting to the vote, noted pro-life champion Lila Rose said the proposed law would empower the “brutal industry and hurt women who are being “coerced” into terminating their pregnancies. “Issue 1 is really empowering a brutal abortion industry and, as Live Action’s campaign shows, irresponsible jerks who use women for sex and then pressure them to end the lives of their own children.”

Her Live Action had initiated an influence campaign that sought to demonstrate to thousands of voters through hard-hitting satire that the abortion lobby is not at all concerned about the well-being of women. On the other hand, Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights spokesperson Lauren Blauvelt said, "Voting NO hands your most personal family decisions over to the GOVERNMENT."
