Mexican bishops express concern over Supreme Court's abortion ruling

SW News: The Mexican Bishops' Conference (CEM) has voiced concern over the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation's (SCJN) recent judgment in support of abortion. The CEM asserts firmly that every human life, regardless of its circumstances or future consequences, has inherent worth from conception until natural death.
The bishops highlighted that the Supreme Court's ruling did not undermine abortion prohibitions in the Federal Penal Code for the rest of the population or force state legislators to legalize abortion under their respective penal codes.
Religious leaders expressed worry that eliminating society's most vulnerable members, children, would not clear anyone's conscience and instead called for making the world a more hospitable place to live.
The bishops claim that if abortion is allowed, it will become more common, and both authorities and individuals will lose sight of their responsibilities to safeguard all human life.
They also underlined that the care and preservation of an unborn child is the duty of the whole community since the conception and birth of a new life represent incomparable worth.
To avoid legalized violence against the weak, the group also emphasized the importance of families, single moms, orphaned and/or abandoned boys and girls, diligent and effective sex education, and exercises in responsible parenting.
The CEM noted that faith may be used to examine the tragedy of abortion more carefully. As a result, it exhorts Catholics to declare the magnificence and dignity of every human, whose life is a gift from God and should be preserved in all of its forms.
Rights activists are expected to challenge these abortion laws at the state level based on the decision's grounds. In 2007, the federal district of Mexico City implemented a significant policy change by becoming the first jurisdiction to decriminalize abortions for pregnancies up to 12 weeks.
