SW News: Parents and teachers are at loggerheads in the American state of Maryland over sexual content in school libraries. The controversy is raging over objectionable content in library books in Carroll County Public Schools.
Following the objection of parents, more than 50 books had to be taken away from the libraries of public schools in the county. The CBS News Baltimore said in an article “Now, the Carroll County School Board is going to review them and decide on the next steps.
“The school district has a policy that allows the school board to review certain books if parents are concerned with the material,” said the news report. “These books have already been removed from school libraries.”
Moms for Liberty Carroll County Chapter Chair Kit Hart said in an interview with Fox News Digital "Each and every book that we identified contained explicit descriptions of graphic sex acts. That was the ONLY criteria that we used to identify these books."
Along with other concerned parents, Hart classified the controversial books into what she calls ‘graphic novels’ portraying sex, ‘erotica’ and ‘adult novels’. After compiling, they submitted the list of titles that had to be removed from the school libraries. Sexually explicit materials and graphic portrayals of sexual behavior were the criteria for the books to be classified.
"The books we've identified have all contained very, very graphic sexual and explicitly graphic content that is highly inappropriate for kids," she said.
The controversy regarding sexually explicit materials in school libraries is raging across several states in the United States. Parental groups are increasingly voicing concern over the objectionable materials invading school libraries.
