SW News: Pro-life activists in the US were arrested on February 24 for handing out flyers outside a hospital in San Francisco. According to a tweet from the group Pro-Life San Francisco, two pro-life activists were "unlawfully" detained for "passing out flyers on public property" outside Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
The group claims that the hospital is working with the University of California in San Francisco to "abort children up to 6 months old and use their organs for HORRIFIC research projects" and is a common target of the pro-life advocacy group's activities.
According to video footage obtained, the members of Pro-Life San Francisco and Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust reached the Zuckerberg San Francisco General on Friday, 24, to raise public awareness of unethical activity and the likelihood of crimes occurring in the hospital. However, as they were handing out the flyers and delivering speeches, uniformed police interrupted the two stating that their gathering was illegal.
Two participants, Tim Clement, Outreach Director of Survivors, and Anastasia Rogers, a San Francisco resident, and animal-rights activist, were detained and taken to the medical facility and detained in a holding cell. Other participants were coerced into leaving the square with threats of arrest.
The pro-life group stated that the members were arrested over false charges. It is not the first time pro-life activists have been taken into custody from the hospital's vicinity. Decrying the arrest, after his release, Tim Clement stated, "We were arrested because of our pro-life message." However, he added that this arrest would not stop pro-life activists from opposing illegal fetal organ harvesting for research purposes.
