New York :

Live Action founder and president Lila Rose labeled abortion "the worst human rights crisis in recent times" when addressing the Transatlantic Summit on Friday at the United Nations, claiming that abortion kills 70 million children worldwide each year. In commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR’s) 75th anniversary, the Summit brought together international leaders who fight to protect the rights to life, family, and fundamental freedoms. During the meeting, almost 200 prominent personalities from 40 countries signed the New York Commitment 75 for Universal Human Rights.

Against that backdrop, Rose noted that the UDHR was established in response to some of modern history's most heinous and systematic violations of human rights and atrocities, such as the genocides perpetrated by Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse-tung. She went on to say that similarly, "massacres on an industrial scale" are taking place in many rich countries. According to Rose, a lot of influential people believe that an unborn child in the womb is neither a human being nor worthy of the Declaration's core human rights.

Rose argued in her speech that because our fundamental human rights are founded on our shared humanity rather than our age, developmental stage, or geographic location, human embryos, and fetuses have the same unalienable and universal right to life as human babies, toddlers, teens, and adults.

According to her, abortion fundamentally violates all human rights, and if a person's rights do not extend to their existence in the womb, then they do not apply to anybody. Rose went on to say that Article 3 of the UDHR safeguards the right to life, liberty, and security, while Articles 6, 7, and 8 give protection against discrimination and equal treatment under the law.

Rose urged the international community to put an end to abortion worldwide, concluding that the majority of UN members openly support and encourage this violation of human rights.
