The House Speaker Mike Johnson upon addressing the ‘March for Life’ supporters said, “Our rights do not come from the government, our rights come from God, our Creator.”
Washington, DC:
Several thousands of pro-lifers gathered at the United States Capitol chanted ‘let their hearts beat’ at the 51st annual ‘March for Life. The pro-life gathering that took place on January 19, Friday, attracted many pro-life advocates and supporters from across the country. At noon, from the National Mall, people marched with a banner that read ‘March For Life’. Despite the dropping temperatures and heavy snowfall, the pro-lifers walked past the Supreme Court building and the U.S. Capitol building.
Before the March, the Orthodox Bishop John Abdalah offered prayers for the unborn babies and their families.
‘March for Life’ President Jeanni Mancini, at the event, proclaimed the theme for the march and said that pro-life movement is all about helping mothers and babies. She also brought the attention of the crowd to the fact that “the heartbeat and the backbone of the pro life movement are pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes.”
The House Speaker Mike Johnson upon addressing the ‘March for Life’ supporters said, “Our rights do not come from the government, our rights come from God, our Creator.”
The House speaker discussed that he himself was a product of unplanned pregnancy and told the crowd, “this is a critical time to help all moms who are facing unplanned pregnancies to work with foster children and to help families who are adopting to volunteer and assist our Vital Pregnancy Resource Centers in our maternity homes and to reach out a renewed hand of compassion and to speak the truth in love.”
Johnson said that the congress this week at the house had passed the pregnant students rights act and would be passing the supporting pregnant and parenting women and families act. He reminded the crowd that, “we're marching today because it takes a lot of work to convince people that every single human child, every unborn child has a value that is too profound and precious to ignore and we have every reason to be optimistic.”
Representative from New Jersey Chris Smith, American Attorney Roger Severino, University of Michigan football coach James Harbaugh, Former National Football League player Benjamin Watson were a few of the other prominent speakers at the event.
At the nation's capital, thousands of students were seen walking the march ignoring the chilling blizzards holding the plaque cards that read synonymous with the event theme, ‘With Every Woman, For Every Child!’
It is the second march since the United States Supreme Court overruled its decision in the 1973 Roe vs. Wade case that legalized abortion in all 50 states. On June 24, 2022, in Dobbs v. Jackson case, the Supreme Court made the landmark ruling that the Constitution of the United States does not confer a right to abortion.
