‘The days of comfortable Catholicism are over,’ says Princeton professor

SW News: In an acceptance speech for the Saint John Paul II New Evangelization Award, Princeton University professor Robert P. George reminded that the days of comfortable Catholicism are over. The days of socially acceptable Christianity are past. So every believer must make a decision between flight-or-fight in the matters of faith-commitment. Professor George was honored with the award on October 23, 2019 by the Washington based Catholic Information Center for his tireless service in the field of catholic intellectual life.
‘The cost of discipleship is a heavy cost. We cannot run away from the present challenges. We have no choice but to fight. It is and will continue to be hard. There will be causalities…’Prof. George warned in his keynote address. As he noted, just as in previous times, many will maintain the visible forms of Christian faith but yield the substance. The line to become useful idiots of progressive religion could be long. The secular progressives propose a new kind of paganism. True believers must resist the temptations and values of this aggressive secularist paganism.
By redefining marriage, for instance, they overturns the biblical, the natural law conception of one-flesh union of sexually complementary spouses and proposes a sexual-romantic companionship or domestic partnership. The arguments they offer are not only unsound but unreasonable, outrageous, scandalous, and even hateful, he said.
Professor George warns that pushing faith out of the public square is now accepted very normal. But this is scandalous.
