SW News: Ahead of Mahsa Amini’s first death anniversary on September 16, Iran’s Law Enforcement Forces detained 13 people from the Gilan province on suspicion of activities against national security.
According to Voice of America, several allegations of civil and labor activists being jailed alongside family members of those who had been arrested or killed during last year’s rallies have surfaced ahead of Amini’s death anniversary.
The detainees have been charged with conspiracy and cooperation in committing acts against national security, along with involvement in propagandistic endeavors against the system in favor of opposition factions. It was in September last year that young Mahsa Amini died in police custody following torture after she was detained for not properly wearing the hijab.
The VOA has reported that ahead of the first anniversary of Amini’s death on September 16th, several reports have emerged of civil and labor activists being detained along with family members of those who had been arrested or killed during last year’s widespread protests across Iran.
The inmates have been accused of conspiring to violate national security, cooperating in such activities, and engaging in propaganda campaigns against the government in support of opposition groups.
Investigators contend that the ringleaders planned to gather groups to foster instability and insecurity in Gilan province and other places inside the Kurdistan province by misleading certain young people and enlisting their support, according to VOA.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s security forces and court institutions have leveled charges against political, labour, and civil activists.  The arbitrary incarceration of women's rights activists in Gilan has received attention from the Iranian Human Rights Campaign.
The group emphasizes the necessity of thoroughly documenting each of these cases as a necessary first step in the UN Truth Commission's all-encompassing work. This initiative attempts to bring to light the numerous human rights breaches committed by the Islamic Republic, according to VOA.
In order to learn more about their loved ones' conditions, the families of the Gilan province inmates visited Rasht's Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office on Thursday. Bidar Zani claims that the prosecutor's office concealed information regarding who actually detained the activists and where they were held. The families were told to return to the prosecutor’s office Saturday for more information. Zani said the jailed activists' inability to make phone calls raises questions about their safety and well-being. The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has reported the arrest of four young residents from the city of Mahabad.
The activists are identified as Shirkou Nasiri, Hiva Shabang, Ashkan Rasouli, and Hedayat Khaste, along with two individuals from Oshnavieh named Shirvan Khezri and Ayoub Mirzai, by security forces. As a result, the tally of detainees in these two cities alone has risen to more than 15 individuals in recent days, VOA reported.
