SW News: With the total enforcement of the Islamic sharia law in Afghanistan, the country will soon witness stoning, whipping and public executions. It was on Sunday that the order of Haibatullah Akhundzada, the Supreme Leader of the Taliban regime, regarding the total implementation of sharia was announced.

Government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid conveyed the message of the Supreme Leader through a tweet on Sunday. He quoted Akhundzada as saying that the files of thieves, kidnappers and those accused of sedition ought to be examined, adding that they have to implement all the sharia conditions regarding hudud and qisas. Hudud covers crimes such as adultery, drinking alcohol, rebellion and abduction. They require evidence such as four Muslim male witnesses.

Ever since the Taliban took over power in Afghanistan last year, it has been posting videos of people being whipped and the bodies of kidnappers being displayed after they were allegedly killed in gunbattle. Akhundzada has been in charge of the group and he has been ruling from Kandahar where the Taliban first sprang up during the civil war in 1994.

With the hard-line group assuming charge of the country, women’s rights have gone for a toss. Once again, they have been forced to appear in a burqa or hijab in public and desist from taking up jobs in the government. Girls have been told not to attend high school and college. Strict implementation of sharia means that the lives of the secret Christians in Afghanistan will also be in jeopardy.
