SW News:

Archbishop Anthony Fisher, OP of Sydney, has condemned the Labor government of the Australian Capital Territory's proposed takeover of Calvary Public Hospital, emphasizing the anti-life agenda behind it. The prelate made his remarks a week after the government introduced legislation to allow Canberra Health Services to acquire and run the Bruce campus of Calvary Catholic Hospital.

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government, headed by chief minister Andrew Barr, came under fire for its action to nationalize the hospital under the guise of the Federal Budget. Archbishop Fisher said, "Taking the land, buildings, and hospital equipment and transferring staff employment across to Canberra Health Services allows them to push their anti-life agenda right through the hospital."

The prelate noted that Calvary Health Care had been operating hospitals and aged care facilities for decades, providing Canberrans with high-quality medical treatment. The prelate, however, expressed his concerns that the government's intentions to take up the hospital would force them to provide abortions, euthanasia, and assisted suicide in the future. He further asked the government to reverse its decision to take over the hospital.

The Catholic Sisters of the Little Company of Mary are currently in charge of running the Calvary Public Hospital. The official handover starts on May 31, with the acquisition completing on July 3.

The Archdiocese had issued a petition asking the ACT government to reverse its decision to take over the institution. It claims that the government violates people's property rights and religious freedom.

According to the petition, Calvary Hospital's management, staff, patients, or other stakeholders were not consulted during the drafting of the legislation. It also states that the proposed timeframe demonstrates a complete unwillingness on the part of the ACT Government to dialogue with its citizens.

Meanwhile, the Right to Life organization has also called the people to sign the petition to save vulnerable patients and stop the government's anti-life legislative agenda.
