SW News: During an official visit to Beijing on Wednesday, August 30, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly emphasized his commitment to tackling human rights issues. Cleverly made it a point to bring up these concerns during his interactions with high-ranking Chinese officials.

Cleverly said, "I have had a lot of encounters with key Chinese government officials, and I have addressed human rights in every interaction. According to him, this subject is heavily debated in the United Nations and in bilateral discussions.

As stated by him, the Chinese government understands the UK's steadfast attitude and has indicated a wish to continue addressing these problems with them. The foreign secretary emphasized the two countries' realistic perspectives on areas of disagreement, emphasizing their commitment to resolve these issues in subsequent talks.

In his comments, he underlined the necessity of recognizing the need for a constructive and reasonable working engagement with China. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of this partnership, citing the myriad global concerns that affect countries all over the world.

During his visit, Cleverly said that maintaining a "pragmatic, rational working relationship with China" was critical "because of the difficulties that impact us all."

Among the numerous pressing issues at hand are the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, efforts to limit Chinese assistance to Moscow, addressing the urgent issue of climate change, given that China is the world's largest emitter of carbon, dealing with the widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, taking steps to prevent future pandemics, and dealing with a variety of transnational challenges, such as wildlife poaching.

Meanwhile, the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee issued an extensive 87-page report in which China was highlighted as a possible danger to UK interests. In response, the committee strongly advised London to take urgent steps to strengthen deterrence diplomacy in order to effectively counter Beijing's threats.
