Cardinal Advincula creates history by receiving Cardinal’s hat from nuncio in home country

SW News: Cardinal Jose Advincula charted history by becoming the first archbishop of Manila to receive the cardinal’s hat in the Philippines. On June 18, the new archbishop of Manila received the red biretta and ring from the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown in Capiz in the presence of two bishops and 12 priests.
Cardinal Advincula could not attend the consistory in November last year because of the pandemic restrictions and that was the reason why the Holy See permitted him to receive the signs of his office from the nuncio in his home country. The cardinal is the 33rd archbishop of the see of Manila.
The nuncio said it was very rare for new cardinals to receive their red hat and ring outside of Rome, adding that he would pray for the new archbishop of Manila.
The Archdiocese of Manila has announced that Cardinal Advincula would take possession of his new see on June 24 during a ceremony at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Intramuros.
Maintaining social distancing only around 400 believers will be allowed to attend the installation Mass in the basilica.
