SW News: Following the devastating Beirut blast that killed at least 137 people, the monks of the Maronite Lebanese Order visited the city to help in the rescue efforts.

Under the supervision of Abbot Neematallah Hachem, the monks removed the debris from the destroyed buildings.

They also distributed food packages to the people in need. Many young Catholics from the Saint Georges Parish, Jbeil, came to assist the monks.

The Maronite Lebanese Order is a monastic order that was founded in 1694.

On Wednesday, Pope Francis had also offered his prayers for the victims of the Beirut explosion.

The real cause of the August 4 blast is still under investigation.
