SW News:
The 2020 Ratzinger Prize for Theology has been won by the Australian theologian, Tracey Rowland, and the French philosopher, Jean-Luc Marion. Sometimes referred to as the Nobel Prize for Theology, the Ratzinger Prize was established by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. It is awarded to two individuals each year regardless of their religious denomination, although both winners this year are Catholic. Professor Tracey Rowland holds the St. John Paul II Chair of Theology at the University of Notre Dame in Australia. She is also an Honorary Fellow of Campion College in Sydney and a member of the Church’s International Theological Commission. Meanwhile, 74-year-old Professor Jean-Luc Marion splits his time between the United States where he is a Professor at the University of Chicago Divinity School and the French capital of Paris where he teaches at both the Sorbonne University and Institut Catholique. He is also a member of the Académie Française, an exclusive group of forty French intellectuals known as “the immortals.” The Ratzinger Prize for Theology is organized by the Vatican’s Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Foundation. The annual award includes prize money worth $125,000.
