SW News: A film is being made on the true story of Polish Catholic humanitarian, Irena Sendler. Irena was a social worker and a nurse who served at the Polish underground during the Second World War in Warsaw,Poland. She was largely responsible for rescuing thousands of Jewish children out of the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw to safer places and for helping persecuted Jewish people there during the Second World War.The film would be a historical thriller and would feature thrilling real life events like Sendler’s underground activities and her arrest, and the events of rescuing over 2000 children, conning the security guards, putting her own safety at risk. Irena Sendler was recognized by the World Holocaust Remembrance Center Yad Vashem in 1965 for her life-saving efforts and was named one of the Righteous Among the Nations. She died at the age of 98 in 2008.
