SW News: Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) organized a panel discussion titled "Human Rights in Pakistan-Interactive Talk" on March 14 in Geneva, Switzerland, to address impunity, the safety of journalists, and enforced or involuntary disappearances in the nation’s restive Balochistan province.

The summit was attended by 96 special ambassadors from nations like the Netherlands, Mexico, Poland, Australia, Italy, Costa Rica, and Ukraine. In his opening remarks, former GHRD chairman Sradhanand Sital brought up the fact that many people still have trouble securing visas to the United Nations, making it harder for them to have their opinions heard.

The discussion on the state of human rights in Pakistan was moderated by GHRD Director Lina Borchardt. Lakhu Lubana, General Secretary of the International Sindhi Congress and Chief Consultant on Air Quality, delivered a compelling speech exposing the Pakistani government's use of heavy rainfall and flood as a sort of genocide against the Sindhi people who live in the Sindh province.

Dr. Naseer Dashti, executive president of the Baloch Human Rights Council and researcher, spoke about Pakistani activists' extrajudicial murders, mutilated corpses, and forced disappearances.

The director of the French Coordination of Organizations and Individuals for Freedom of Conscience, Thierry Valle, outlined how the United Nations and European Union should support Pakistani minorities. He highlighted the EU's Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP+), which promotes the formation, participation, and implementation of minority rights conventions, as well as UN resolutions mandating governments to protect human and minority rights.

Manel Msalmi addressed the blasphemy and women's rights concerns in Pakistan. According to her, Pakistan's blasphemy laws have fostered religious intolerance and lynchings since the Pakistani parliament toughened legislation to quell angry demonstrators. She even emphasized the need for early education to prevent radicalization, with several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) spreading awareness and cooperating with international organizations such as the EU and the United Nations.
