Moscow denies US casualty claims as war rages on in Ukraine

SW News: The White House estimates that Russia's military had suffered 100,000 casualties, including more than 20,000 deaths in the past five months.
However, Moscow disagreed with the American assessment saying that Russian military casualties in Ukraine were "plucked from thin air." Kremlin asserted that Washington lacked access to reliable information.
Sergei Shoigu, Russia's defence minister, stated that 5,937 Russian soldiers had died in the conflict in September, which was the most recent instance the country made its losses due to the war.
Moscow refused to assess its casualties but said on Tuesday that it had been striking Ukrainian stockpiles housing Western-supplied weapons with success.
Russian authorities claim that in its most substantial attacks on Ukraine in weeks, they have recently killed and injured dozens of people.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, leader of the Ukrainian ground forces, said preparations are going on for a counterattack. As fighting rages on in and around Bakhmut, millions of hungry people who are far from the frontlines are also quickly affected by the war.
To help stop a worldwide food catastrophe, Russia said on Tuesday that it might not renew a Black Sea grain agreement that allows Ukraine to ship grain securely from particular ports.
Moscow has nevertheless threatened to renege on the agreement on May 18 if Ukraine's partners refuse to concede to requests to loosen restrictions on its agricultural exports.
On Wednesday, May 3, a drone damaged a building in the Dnipropetrovsk area, marking the third evening wave of attacks on Kyiv by Russia in six days as Moscow intensifies its offensive on its neighbor.
According to the air force command of Ukraine, its forces shot down 21 of the 26 Iranian-made Shahed drones that Russia launched, while officials in Kiev said that air defence systems shot down the drones sent over the city without any immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The Dnipropetrovsk region's governor, Serhiy Lisak, said on Telegram that one of the drones struck and set fire to an administrative building in Dnipro, the region's administrative hub. The fire was put out by morning.
