SW News: The war-torn nation has lost more than 540 children in 18 months of fighting, according to the worldwide humanitarian organization Save the Children. The charity also laments that child casualties increased by 7% over the summer as air and drone attacks increased.

The worldwide charity has been working to safeguard and help children's rights since 2014 and has been active in Ukraine, providing relief to children and their families impacted by hostilities. Additionally, it is assisting refugee families across Europe and facilitating children's access to essential services like schooling.

The philanthropic organization bemoaned that as air and drone assaults tripled between May and August compared to the previous four months, child casualties in the nation soared by more than 7%. According to UN figures, 148 children have died or been injured in Ukraine since May 2023, increasing the total number of child casualties since the war's intensification on February 24 of last year to more than 1,700.

There have been 545 deaths in total, including 24 minors this summer.

UN figures show that between 1 May and 13 August, there was a spike in all civilian casualties in Ukraine, with 865 civilian deaths in June 2023 being the highest amount.

There were 459 air and drone strikes between the beginning of January and the end of April, and between 1 May and 4 August, this number increased to 1,432, with about 95% of these attacks occurring in populous areas.

Save the Children’s Advocacy Director in Ukraine, Amjad Yamin, decried that eighteen months into full-scale war, there seems to be no reprieve from the perilous circumstances children and families endure.

Numerous attacks on populous places have resulted in the deaths of children and their parents, hundreds of individuals being seriously hurt or traumatized, and homes being damaged or destroyed, leaving thousands of families uncertain.
