Polish education minister moots church attendance to combat child suicides
News Desk

SW News: Polish education minister Przemyslaw Czarnek said the LGBT ideology brainwashes children and is the cause of the rise in child suicides last year. The education minister pleaded for more emphasis on traditional values, including church attendance.
A record number of suicide attempts by children and adolescents have been noted in Poland in 2022. Police data show over 1,500 by the end of September 2022, already more than in the whole of the previous year, which had the highest-ever figure. In total – across all age groups – 11,032 Poles attempted suicide in the first nine months of 2022 and 3,849 of these attempts ended in death.
Suicide attempts were most common among girls between the ages of 13 and 18. In this age bracket, in the first nine months of 2022, as many as 1,137 girls tried to end their lives. Among children aged between seven and 12, there were 54 suicide attempts but none resulted in death.
The minister blames the LGBT ideology for causing mental problems among children. He highlights the powerful crisis of the family, the attack on it, on Christianity, on the Church, on religion, and on everything that distinguishes good from evil as the roots of the problem. Therefore, he stressed the protection of family values and marriage, which should not be attacked with Marxist and LGBT ideologies that wreak havoc in the minds of children.
A fresh package of funding for children's mental health care of 220 million zlotys was announced by the Polish government in 2021. The plan called for upgrading hospital facilities, establishing a 24-hour helpline, launching online support and preventative programs, and facilitating faster access to specialists.
Poland's suicide attempts by minors have been sky-high during the last two years. In 2022, 2,031 children tried to take their lives. A year earlier, this number was still at 1,496.
