Pro-abortion activists attack Catholic churches in Poland
News Desk
Monday, 26 Oct 2020
SW News: Poland’s Catholic community is coming under sustained attack from violent pro-abortion activists. The unrest follows this month’s ruling by the country's Supreme Court that will largely ban the practice of killing the unborn in the womb across Poland. In recent days, protesters have interrupted Holy Mass across the country; have desecrated public crucifixes and statues, including those dedicated to Pope Saint John Paul II; and have both vandalized and threatened to vandalize churches including the Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Southern Poland. Standing in their way have been Polish police along with many lay Catholics who have kept a prayerful vigil to prevent protestors from entering church buildings. Commenting on the present situation, the President of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, said that, "profanity, violence, abusive inscriptions and disrupting services are not the right method of operating in a democratic state.” He added that despite the intimidation, the Church, “can neither stop defending life nor abandon proclaiming that every human being must be protected from conception until natural death.”
