SW News: Prominent British pro-life organization Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) paid homage to veteran Catholic politician Sir David Amess, who was brutally stabbed to death on October 15 by a 25-year-old British citizen who is said to have extremist Islamist beliefs. SPUC issued a statement in which they condoled the death of the MP, who was a great friend to the organization and used to closely collaborate with them.

Amess was a practising Catholic and was staunchly opposed to abortion. He was stabbed multiple times by an assailant of Somali origin. Amess succumbed to his injuries despite attempts made by paramedics to save his life.

Throughout his political career, he worked hard to protect the lives of the unborn and women who faced complications in their pregnancies. He worked closely with Parliament in implementing various pro-life initiatives.

Antonia Tully, Executive Director of SPUC, who had worked closely with Sir David on various pro-life campaigns, said, "I can remember Sir David as a young MP in the House of Commons. He was always willing to do whatever he could for SPUC, for example, tabling Parliamentary Questions on our behalf. During a long career as an MP, Sir David was a stalwart pro-life voter and never reneged on his deeply held views on abortion."

Tully also said, "I have a particular memory, from many years ago, of being part of a studio audience during a live television debate which included a discussion on whether disabled unborn babies should be screened and then aborted. The parliamentarian gave a passionate response upholding the right to life of unborn disabled children."

A father of five children, Sir David served as MP for almost 40 years. A man going by the name of Ali Harbi Ali was arrested and charged with murdering the lawmaker.
