SW News: It was a bold witness of the Catholic faith and the sanctity of life when thousands of people descended on the Spanish capital of Madrid on March 12 to take part in the Yes to Life march. It is estimated that 50,000 pro-life supporters from all over the country took part in the march in the morning. They mostly comprised young people, families and religious.
The rally began from the Plaza de Colon and the thousands who flooded the streets of Madrid carried Christian symbols and banners and placards carrying Christian and pro-life slogans and messages. Also seen were pictures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Some of the placards read “Prayer is not Harassment” and “What have you done with 20 percent of my generation?”
Some of the organizations that took part in the march included 40 Days for Life, John Paul II Rescuers, Defiende Mostoles, Educatio Servanda Foundation and youth associations from different parts of Spain and even from other European nations. There were also pro-life supporting lawmakers such as Senator Javier Puente from Cantabria. Also present were some members of the Popular Party.
Through this mammoth rally, the organizers wanted to tell the Leftist government that all human beings have the right to life right from conception to natural death. It was also a bold display of the greatness of the culture of life and its fruits. The participants also boldly proclaimed that all human beings have the right to life and should be treated with dignity. They also rejected all unjust laws that threaten life and pro-life activities.
We will continue working to ensure that no illegitimate and perverse law is in force in our legal system since we believe that Spain must be an advanced nation, progressive in terms of true rights and conservative of objective and perennial values, said the organizers of Yes to Life.
“And while the laws change, while the culture of death tries to continue to dominate, we will continue to shine a light, showing the truth, saving lives and hopes. For all this, we show, for another year, our public and united commitment to continue saying always and in all circumstances, Yes to life!”
