Using nukes threatens the future, says Holy Father

SW News: Pope Francis has reaffirmed the Holy See's unwavering belief that using nuclear weapons is a crime against humanity and threatens the future.
In a letter to the Bishop of Hiroshima, where the G7 Summit of the world's wealthiest nations began on Friday, May 19, the Pope expressed his hope that the G7 Summit will show a long-term perspective in creating the groundwork for enduring peace and stability, and long-term sustainable security.
The Holy Father assured Bishop Alexis-Mitsuru Shirahama of Hiroshima of his spiritual closeness. He prayed for the fruitfulness of the Summit, noting that G7 leaders were assembled to discuss critical concerns plaguing the international community.
The Pope called Hiroshima a symbol of memory as it "proclaims the inadequacy of nuclear arms to respond effectively to today's great threats to peace and to ensure national and international security" due to "waste and poor allocation of human and economic resources," in addition to the catastrophic effects of any potential use of nuclear weapons.
He said, "Nuclear arms and other weapons of mass destruction represent a multiplier of risk that offers only an illusion of peace."
Separately, the Holy Father urges the international community to continue supporting the oppressed people of Ukraine and to support dialogue in Sudan during the Regina Coeli on Sunday. Furthermore, the Pope sincerely appealed for the warring factions in Sudan to put down their weapons while urging the world community to do everything possible to promote peace and lessen the populace's suffering.
The Pope expressed support for the limited dialogues that have already been made but pointed out that the situation remains grave after a month of violence.
"Please, let us not get used to conflict and violence. Let us not get used to war!" the Pope pleaded.
He also added his pleas for the Ukrainian people suffering from war conflicts.
