SW News: The Nicaraguan dictatorship has seized a Catholic school and is threatening to expel three foreign nuns in what seems to be the latest attacks against the Catholic Church. Santa Luisa de Marillac Technical Institute, the only higher secondary school in the locality of San Sebastian de Yali, was transferred to the Ministry of Education.
The foreign nuns of the school managed by the sisters of the Congregation of Saint Luisa de Marillac are on the verge of being expelled from the country. The school educates more than 100 students and was founded in 1992.
National media reported that the police seized the school to review the documents. There were six nuns in the school, of whom three were foreigners facing threats of deportation. Those nuns from Nicaragua have been sent to their respective convents.
Meanwhile, the head of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, urged the faithful to remain calm amid the money laundering accusation against the Catholic Church. The prelate addressed the faithful during the Holy Mass of Pentecost in the Managua Cathedral. Encouraging the faithful, he said, "not to be afraid," and that the "Church is in the hands of the Holy Spirit."
On May 27, the National Police charged the Church with money laundering and called the prelate to submit the documents citing the bank account details. Police said that during the investigation, they found thousands of dollars hidden in bags in various diocesan facilities.
Also that they have confirmed "the illegal theft of resources from bank accounts that had been ordered by law to freeze" and that it is "a money laundering network that has been discovered in the various diocesan departments."
A few days ago, police informed they are investigating three priests over various charges. Fr Jaime Montesinos from the Diocese of Matagalpa is being investigated for treason, while two others are for administrative matters.
The Daniel Ortega regime is oppressing the Catholic Church in many ways. Nearly 90 attacks on churches were reported this year.
