SW News: The Croatian capital Zagreb witnessed thousands of pro-life supporters taking to the streets on Saturday, May 29, to protest against abortion. Waving Croatian flags and singing patriotic songs, protesters marched through the streets with banners that read “Unborn Lives Matter” similar to the slogan “Black Lives Matter”.

One of the organisers of the event Luka Hudincec said people have to protect all human lives, including that of unborn children. Meanwhile, those supporting abortion, feminists and pro-Left supporters stood on the sidewalk clad in blood-stained aprons and sporting hooks alluding to illicit termination of pregnancy as thousands of pro-life enthusiasts fearlessly marched through the streets.

The sixth edition of the annual march was organised on the eve of local elections in Zagreb where a Left-supported candidate was favoured by the electorate over another conservative contestant in exit polls.

Another organizer Stjepan expressed hope that the politicians who represent them locally and nationally respect the most fundamental human right, which is life.

In Croatia, where more than 90 per cent of the population identify themselves as Catholics, abortion is legal up to the 10th week of pregnancy, according to a law enacted in 1978 when the nation was part of Communist Yugoslavia. However, the law also allows doctors to refuse to perform an abortion and more than 60 per cent use this right as per official statistics.
