China:

A United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders has issued a call to action, urging Chinese authorities to promptly release Guo Feixiong, a rights activist who is currently detained.

Special Rapporteur Mary Lawlor emphasized that the Chinese authorities must address the increasing calls for the release of Feixiong, whose health has been deteriorating ever since he was sent to prison. According to Lawlor's recent statement, Feixiong's condition is currently critical and requires immediate intervention.

Based on the information provided, it has been reported that United Nations (UN) human rights experts have purportedly sent a total of ten urgent letters to the appropriate authorities since 2006. These letters were specifically drafted with the intention of requesting the early release of an individual on humanitarian grounds.

Lawlor has revealed that Guo has engaged in a series of hunger strikes as a form of protest against his imprisonment, which is perceived as unjust. Furthermore, she emphasized that there has been a notable decrease in his weight, coupled with a multitude of serious health ailments. It was also highlighted that he has been deprived of suitable medical attention.

Meanwhile, Lawlor expressed her strong commitment to maintaining open and transparent communication with Chinese authorities. Her primary goal is to safeguard the fundamental rights of Feixiong and other individuals who are advocating for human rights in similar situations in China.
