SW News: As stated by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Nigeria is now in a condition of uncertainty as the debate regarding the ruling of the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) is continuing.

Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, serving as President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), addressed concerns over the conduct of the elections during the 2023 Second Plenary Assembly in Abuja yesterday. He emphasized the PEPT's indifference to demands from dissatisfied applicants. After hearing their petitions, the PEPT allegedly made its verdict on September 6 after a long session.

The five judges who comprise the Election Petition Tribunal agreed unanimously that the petitions brought to them lacked substance. As a result, they decided to reject the petitions. Two petitioners voiced their displeasure with the court's decision, alleging a perceived lack of fairness. Despite adhering to the justices' judgments, these people have opted to take their quest for justice to the Supreme Court.

According to the bishops, as this lawsuit continues, both the nation's future and the country's democracy are at stake. The bishops then expressed their hope and prayer that the Supreme Court judges would not "bend the law" to fit the views of any of the parties concerned.

Furthermore, "we hope and pray for the day when elections in our country are decided solely by ballots and not by courts." Ugorji expressed significant concern about the pervasive uneasiness and worry felt by residents who are faced with increasing economic situations, hunger, and hardships on a daily basis.
