Nigerian panel investigates 2,314,440 human rights violations in 2022

SW News: The Nigerian National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) investigated and resolved 1,643,018 complaints, or 70.99%, of the 2,314,440 complaints received in 2022.
This information was included in its 2022 annual report.
It divides the complaints it investigates into five categories: civil and political rights; economic, social, and cultural rights; women and children; vulnerable groups; and emerging human rights.
Out of the 2,314,440 complaints submitted, Rivers, Kaduna, Delta, Imo, Niger, Ebonyi, Lagos, and Sokoto states received the most of them, with Rivers State receiving the most (275,057), Kaduna receiving the second-most (242,220), and Delta receiving the third-most (222,398). In addition to the aforementioned, the Abuja Metropolitan Office and Osun State both received less than 10,000 complaints, with Osun State coming in last place with 7,243 complaints.
In total, the commission received 478,610 complaints in the first quarter of 2022, and 779,543 complaints in the second quarter, according to the paper The Punch. The number of complaints increased to 781,156 in the third quarter but significantly decreased to 275,131 in the fourth.
In all, 2,314,380 were ruled to be admissible, whereas 60 were ruled to be ineligible in accordance with the rules of process.
The NHRC reported that 671,362 complaints were still open while 1,643,018 complaints had already been resolved.
It also showed that concerns about quality of life problems ranked first with 567,160 complaints, followed by complaints about children's rights with 388,700 complaints.
