SW News: The Supreme Court of Kenya has ruled that LGBTQ individuals and organizations may legally register, and this has caused "serious" anxiety among Christian leaders in the eastern African country. On February 24, the top court confirmed the finding of a lower court that "gays have the right to associate," despite the fact that homosexual marriage is outlawed in Kenya.

Concerned that the verdict will pave the way for the eventual elimination of legal, moral, and cultural constraints on gay behavior, the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF) warned of far-reaching consequences for individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole.

According to the nation’s Christian leaders, gay ideology is already permeating the country's classrooms, churches, news outlets, and movie studios. Several evangelical groups, like the CITAM church in Nairobi, were shocked by the verdict and released a statement through the bishop on Sunday, calling the court's decision "contradictory" since it went against "cultural norms".

Homosexuality is still illegal in Kenya, and a maximum 14-year prison term is imposed for homosexual convictions. Despite the fact that homosexuality is illegal in Kenya, the Supreme Court decided that those who identify as gay have a right to form associations.

While this was going on, a Catholic lawyer named Moses Tula Chelanga tweeted: "The Supreme Court's decision on LGBTQ is like the Catechism of the Catholic Church—that having "homosexual orientation or tendency," while ordered towards moral evil, is not sinful (legal), but engaging in "homosexual acts" is sinful (illegal)."

Article 45(2) of the Kenyan Constitution says that same-sex marriages are not allowed, but it says nothing about marriages between people of the same gender.
